Department of Pediatrics :
It is divided into five units. Professor/Associate Professor heads each unit. Total bed allotted is 200 for Pediatric medicine.  Pediatric medicine consists of:

Paediatric Surgery :
The Pediatric Surgery Department deals with all types of Pediatric Surgical problems. The department is also provided with a highly sophisticated Laproscopic machine and regular operations are carried out with this new procedure.

This is one of the best department for new born care in Bangladesh, having well trained staffs and state of the art medical equipments like: Incubators, Infant warmer with respirator, Pulse Oximeter, Infusion Pump, Head Box, Apnea monitor, Photo therapy machine etc.
Background: Chittagong Maa O Shishu Hospital Medical College is a 500 bedded hospital, where the neonatal ward consists of 50 beds. Among these 50 beds, the NICU, which is level III, consists of 16 beds and the rest of the beds are designated as level I & level II Being a tertiary hospital, 75% of the patients admitted here are referred from outside and 25% are from the Obstetric ward of the hospital. The referred cases are mostly serious as they come from distant places of Chittagong And its adjoining areas Objective: In order to cater to the demand of the people and give better services, the neonatal ward of CMOSHMC has under gone great transformation over the last 4-5 years with the aim of decreasing perinatal/neonatal mortality in order achieve MDG-4 by the year 2015. Clinical Staffs: The Neonatal unit is managed by renowned Professors, consultants and auxiliary staffs from Pediatric surgery, Cardiology, Orthopedic surgery, Neurology and others Facilities: The Neonatal ward is managed by 1) Highly skilled nursing staffs 2) Highly trained doctors to manage all kinds of neonatal emergencies More emphasis have been given to strict aseptic precaution and cleanliness 3)State of the art medical equipments t including ventilators, warmers, incubators, Bubble CPAP etc. 4) A highly well equipped Pathology and imaging department including color Doppler Echocardiography to facilitate all types of relevant investigations. Post graduate studies and Research: The Neonatal ward of CMOSHMC is the only department outside Dhaka to be recognized by BCPS (Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons) for FCPS part II training. It is also one and only department outside Dhaka where international research are being conducted along with Johns Hopkins University USA and Child Research Foundation of Dhaka. Conclusion: In the context of Bangladesh, individual or collective effort is the need of the hour to decrease Perinatal and/Neonatal mortality, therefore in every local setting one should have the desire to improve services for the care of the new born, by pooling all the resources available along with clinical acumen ship, which will definitely have a positive outcome in decreasing neonatal mortality.
