Institute Of Child Health
The Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Institute of Child Health has been in operation for post-graduate
“Diploma in Child Health (DCH)” since 1997 with a view to improving child health. Six doctors
are recruited for this course every year and this course has the approval of the Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare, BM&DC, BSMMU and the Chattogram University. To date, 56 doctors successfully completed
this Post-graduate training from this institute. Training in this hospital is recognized by the Bangladesh
College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) for FCPS Part-II (Pediatrics, Pediatric Neurology, Neonatology,
Gynae & Obs., Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, Paediatric Surgery). Besides the introduction
of MD (Pediatrics) course is under process.
Management
Doctors, whose minimum 3 years pediatric training is recognized by Chittagong University,
are recruited for a comprehensive course in paediatrics leading to DCH (Diploma in Child Health)
postgraduate degree from the university This Institute was formed to offer DCH coarse to qualified
doctors with pre requisite training and every year six new students are enrolled.
The number of post graduate students admitted till date is 64. Till now 34 post graduate students have
obtained DCH degree from this Institute.
Research
A research project is in progress on ADIP (Accelerated development and introduction plan for pneumococcal vaccine.) along with ICDDRB and Dhaka Shishu Hospital.
Another research project has been started entitled “Safety and Efficacy of Simplified Antibiotics Regimens for Outpatient Treatment of Suspected Sepsis in Neonates and Young Infants in Bangladesh. This research will be jointly carried out with John Hopkins University USA, Dhaka Shishu Hospital, Dhaka Shishu Shashto Foundation & ICDDRB.
New project: Along with CDC Atlanta, USA & ICDDRB, a new research project will be started to find immunodeficiency in children.
